Merchandise Spotlight: The Walt Disney World Retro Map Spirit Jersey
For the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, they released a collection called the Vault Collection. Merchandise in this line are replicas and/or inspired by-merchandise released in the 1970s. One of my favorite pieces in this collection is the Walt Disney World Retro Map Spirit Jersey.
What is a Spirit Jersey?
I mentioned some of Disney’s Spirit Jersey in some past blog posts (Mint and Popcorn). I really never really explain what a Spirit Jersey is.
Spirit Jersey is the name of one of Disney’s popular merchandise – The Spirit Jersey (It also happens to be the brand name.)Spirit Jersey also has made other items like hats and masks, but most know for their Spirit Jersey.
The Spirt Jersey is an oversized t-shirt (typically long sleeve) to make it feel like you wear a sports jersey but with the feel of a t-shirt. They are super comfy to wear because most have the perfect balance between thickness and thinness.
There are ones for Adults, Children, Pets, and nuiMOs. They always seem to make a Spirit Jersey for any holiday, event, and/or vacation. There are also some for some big franchises- like Marvel and Star Wars, along with some for different Disney characters.
Details of the Walt Disney World Retro Map Spirit Jersey
This Retro Map Spirit Jersey has a lot of details packed on to one jersey. Each time I look at mine, I find something new!
Main Design
This Spirit Jersey features a sublimation design of different parts of the map from Magic Kingdom in the 1970s in an AOP (all-over print) retro/vintage design It looks like you are looking at the map of Magic Kingdom’s first years. They even include the little numbers by the attractions and buildings in which you will look at the map key to find the name. I love the attention to detail Disney is known for. The look of it looks almost like the map in the A Visit to Walt Disney World Board Game.
It is colorful and features the attractions and buildings from when Magic Kingdom first opened. It also has the areas of Magic Kingdom (Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, & Liberty Square). Main Street USA that leads up to Cinderella’s Castle is on the jersey. This is my favorite detail of the Spirit Jersey!
Some of the attractions that I spotted include Jungle Cruise, Prince Charming Carousel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage, Swiss Family Robinson, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, and Dumbo.
It also features the title of the map- A Guide to Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World. I even spotted the monorail along with the riverboat and train.
Each one will look a little different due to the print placement of the AOP design. The print placement on my looks different from the one shown on shopDisney. Just keep that in mind with any AOP design, it may look a little different from the picture.
Front Vinyl Design
The front vinyl design features a puffy vinyl of Mickey Mouse with the word “Walt Disney World” in white underneath and the logo of Disney World on top. It is also in white.
Back Vinyl Design
In the same puffy vinyl as the front, with Walt Disney World in white. It is across the back and going on to the back of the sleeves. I like the flag vinyl design in which it says Florida, which is on top of the letter S.
Availability/Sizes
This spirit jersey is an adult fit, and sizes range from XS-XXL. It was first released in Walt Disney World in late January/early February. Of course after my trip! So I patiently waited for it to come available on shopDisney. It finally did on February 21st. Like with most 50th merchandise, it is sold out online.
I am not sure about the availability in the parks. I notice with merchandise at parks that one day is in stock and the next day is gone.
Price
This Spirit Jersey retailed at $74.99 at the time I purchased it. I did save some money due to using my Disney Visa Cardholder discount.
This Spirit Jersey is one of the best ones they have made in my opinion. I love the super detailed design and the bright colors! I feel like I am the map in this Spirit Jersey.
