Food Spotlight: The Croque Glacé at L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot
Every time I go to Disney, I try to eat something new. After seeing it on Tiktok, I knew I had to try the Croque glacé at L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot when planning my January trip to Disney. Needless to say, I did and was so glad that I did! It was divine!
What is the L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot?
The L’Artisan des Glaces is a little ice cream shop located in the France Pavillion in Epcot.
They offered 16 flavors of ice cream and sorbet flavors. Some of the flavors they had included classic chocolate and vanilla. Some more advanced flavors like caramel fleur de sel and coconut white chocolate were available. These ice cream and sorbet flavors are traditional french recipes and handcrafted from scratch.
Their menu offers the more traditional scoops served in a waffle cone or cup to some Artisan’s Specials- Macaron, Coupe du Dimanche, and the one I had, the Croque Glacé. For more details on the menu, click here.
Details of the Croque Glacé
The Croque Glacé is a French version of an ice cream sandwich. It comes with 1 scoop of ice cream/sorbet of your choosing that is warm pressed between a homemade brioche. There is a recipe for the brioche in one of my favorite Disney Inspired Cookbooks that I found on Amazon. Click here to read the blog post.
Before the top slice brioche and the pressing process, you can choose a sauce to have drizzle inside. The sauces I saw were chocolate, caramel, and what looked like a strawberry.
A perfect balance of warmness and coolness in this treat. The brioche gets a little warm with a slight crisp on the edges from being pressed. It was not too crisp nor too soft. The ice cream inside had a cool/cold creamy consistency.
This brioche ice cream sandwich is a decent size. It was bigger than the size of my hand. I was in ice cream heaven while devouring it! It was a nice flavor of caramel yet did not overwhelm the brioche.
The Process
They take the brioche bread, which is sliced in half. The bottom slice is placed on the warm press device. The press device reminded me of a waffle maker.
Then they put the 1 scoop (a decent amount) of the flavor of ice cream I selected on top of the bottom piece of bread. I picked caramel fleur de se. Next, they drizzled the sauce on the ice cream. I chose caramel sauce. Then they took the top piece of brioche and placed it on top.
Then they closed the device and turned it over. This is the pressed part of the process. After a few seconds, they flipped it back over and opened it up to reveal the Croque Glacé.
All of this took place in front of me at the counter. Click here to see a snippet of the process of them making mine on my Tiktok.
This frozen treat is one of my top favorites to have at Disney.
If you are looking for a unique ice cream treat during your time at Epcot, I recommend checking out the L’Artisan des Glaces and trying the Croque Glacé.
