During my November 2023 trip to Disneyland, I had one of the best dishes I ever had while visiting Disney Parks. That dish is the Gulf Shrimp and Grits from Tiana’s Palace.

What is Tiana’s Palace?

Tiana’s Palace is Disneyland’s newest quick service restaurant based on Tiana’s dream restaurant (Tiana’s Palace) that she achieved in the movie Princess and the Frog. It serves cajun/Creole-style food with typical dishes that you find down in the Bayou/New Orleans region. Some dishes include House Gumbo,7 Greens Gumbo with Chicken & Andouille Sausage, Muffelta Sandwich, and Beef Po Sandwich. For dessert, they offer house-filled Beignets. Some specialties they serve include Buttermilk Cornbread and Joffrey’s Coffee™ Chicory Cold Brew. Click here to view Tiana’s Palace menu.

The restaurant has some decor that pays homage to the film. It is that Disney detail. It was so stunning inside. I don’t think I got to see all the details but excuse for me to go back.

Like most Disneyland Resorts, this restaurant offers patio dining. The patio was as stunning as the inside.

While I was checking out, Tiana made an appearance at her restaurant. She was wearing a green 20’s style dress. I love the lily detail in her dress. I didn’t get to meet her, but it was still magical being able to see her.

Ordering food kind of reminds me of a cafeteria. Most food was in warmers like storage containers, just like how the cafeteria or buffet keeps their food warm for service. You tell the cast members what you want, and they serve it on a plate/dish. Then, you place that on your carrying tray. Some items were already plated, and you can just pick those up. When you have everything you want to order, you head to the cashier, and they total up everything you have on your tray.

This restaurant does offer mobile ordering.

Description

Here is the description of this dish from Tiana’s Palace that came from the menu on Disneyland’s webpage.

“Gulf Shrimp and Grits -simmered in Creole Sauce with Cheesy Grits”

I wish they would be a little more descriptive about what is in the creole sauce.

Price

The price of this dish is $17.49 plus tax. Certain discounts can be used at this restaurant. Those discounts can be found on the webpage about Tiana’s Palace.

I did get a 10% discount on my order when I used my Disney Visa credit card.

My Overall Thoughts

As mentioned in the opening of this post, this is the best dish I have ever had while visiting a Disney Park. It was nearly perfection! I give this dish a 9.5 out of 10.

The grits had a perfect balance of creaminess and cheesiness. The shrimp were flavorful and juicy. I thought the shrimp were a decent size. The creole sauce enhanced the dish and was a burst of flavor!

The only thing that I deduct from this dish is when I think of cajun/creole food, I think of spicy. To me, this dish was not spicy. I wish there were a little kick of heat to go with the phenomenal flavor of the shrimp and grits.

I hope that Walt Disney World will add a Tiana’s Palace to their resort/park because it is closer for me to visit and to get this heavenly dish.

Gulf Shrimp and Grits from Tiana’s Palace with House-Filled Beignet
My full meal(Gulf Shrimp and Grits, House-Filled Beignet, and cup of water) with my Daisy nuiMOs as my dining buddy.

The Gulf shrimp and grits were not the only thing I had from Tiana’s Palace. I did get myself a house-filled beignet. I have plans to do a spotlight on the beignet. So stay tuned.  Update- Click here to read my spotlight on the house-filled beignet.
